How California independent agencies automate homeowners quoting

Published September 9, 2026

DRAFT 2026-09-09 - replaces the pre-pivot post "How Small Businesses in Los Angeles Can Automate Their Operations with AI" (/blog/ai-automation-los-angeles). Not built until its publish flag in ops/build_site.py is flipped on Jason's word. This paragraph is removed at publish. DECISION FLAG for Jason: the sentence naming AgencyZoom under "Where the CRM fits" is the only brand mention; delete it if the de-branding rule from the portal ("Push to CRM") extends to marketing copy.

Quoting a California home is more work than quoting most homes. Carriers ask more questions, decline more often, and change their appetite more frequently. This article describes how independent agencies take that work off the producer's desk, what the flow looks like on an ordinary morning, and what to look for if you are evaluating a tool.

Why California quoting takes longer than it should

Three things make a California property desk slow.

  • More questions per carrier. Wildfire exposure, roof age and material, year built, distance to hydrant and station, prior claims. Each portal asks in its own order and its own words.
  • More declines. A carrier that will not write a ZIP code, a roof older than its rule, or a home above a certain replacement cost still has to be asked before you know. Every no costs the same minutes as a yes.
  • More re-quotes. Appetite moves. A lead quoted last quarter may need to be run again this quarter, against a different subset of the panel.

Producers absorb all of this during the first call. The customer answers the same questions three or four times while the agent switches tabs. By the time there is a number to discuss, the energy of the call is gone.

What automation looks like on a Tuesday morning

With OBLQ Quote running, the morning looks like this.

  • A new lead lands in the CRM from the website, a call, or a referral partner, the way it does today.
  • Quote picks it up and runs it through every carrier on the agency's panel, inside each carrier's own portal: address validation, property details, the standard underwriting questions, coverage selections. Each carrier gets a flow built for that carrier.
  • Each carrier reports to a tile on one board: premium and coverage when it quotes, the carrier's stated reason when it declines, and a plain-English fix when something is missing.
  • Quote PDFs save to the agency's cloud storage and attach to the lead in the CRM. Every tile deep-links to the live quote in the carrier portal.
  • When the producer is ready, the quotes go to the customer by text or email, and the CRM record is updated.

The producer starts the call with the carriers that said yes, the ones that said no and why, and the one that needs a roof age. The customer answers one question, not twelve. How it works has the detail.

Where the CRM fits

Nothing about lead intake changes. Leads keep landing in the CRM or agency management system the agency already runs (AgencyZoom is a common one), and Quote watches it for new leads. Results, PDFs, and notes go back to the same record. Most of our customers end up working the day from the Quote board and treating the CRM as the system of record it already was.

What to look for in a quoting tool

If you are comparing options, these are the questions that separate a real quoting engine from a rater with a nicer screen.

  • Whose number is it? A rater models a premium from rate tables. Ask whether the tool returns the carrier's own premium, with the quote saved in the carrier's system.
  • What happens on a decline? You want the carrier's reason on the tile, not a blank.
  • What happens when a carrier needs something? The answer should be a plain-English item and a one-click re-run after the fix in your CRM.
  • Where do credentials live? Carrier logins should be stored encrypted and used only at quoting time, and you should be able to rotate them whenever you want.
  • Where does the data live? Leads, quotes, and PDFs should stay in your CRM and your cloud storage. The vendor should be able to tell you exactly what it keeps and for how long.
  • Does the team have to change how it works? It should not. The only new habit should be reading one board instead of typing into a row of portals.

Setup, honestly

Setup is white-glove. OBLQ configures the CRM integration, enters your carrier panel with you, and runs your first live leads together. Most agencies are running the same week they start. Pricing is a one-time Core Implementation plus usage per lead (currently $3; see the pricing page for the live rate) (pricing).

In production use, Quote saves more than 50 minutes per lead in conversations and quoting, and production is up 83 percent. Your leads will produce your own numbers in a 20-minute demo.

Common questions

Is this a comparative rater? No. Quote fills the carrier's own portal and returns the carrier's own premium, coverage, and PDF, with the quote saved in the carrier's system.

Which carriers does it support? The ones your agency is appointed with. Each carrier flow is built for your panel during onboarding and maintained as carriers change their portals.

Do we need to be in California? No. California is where the hardest version of the problem lives, and where OBLQ is based, but Quote works wherever an agency has carrier appointments and a CRM.

What about our customers' personal data? Personal data in quote records is purged after 31 days; statistics are kept. The privacy policy has the specifics.
